A Fox of a Feather is a nonprofit research organization dedicated to understanding the role that guns play in American society and reducing preventable gun-related injury and death through evidence-based knowledge.
Led by firearm researchers and educators, we study firearms as a social, cultural, and public health issue. Our work examines how guns and gun policies intersect with health and well-being, mental health, community safety, social determinants, and the political and cultural contexts of gun ownership in the United States. We bring together insights from public health, sociology, and other related disciplines to produce rigorous, independent research that deepens public understanding of these complex issues. A core part of our mission is translating scientific findings into clear, accessible information for the public. Through reports, educational resources, public outreach, and open-access materials, we work to ensure that evidence about firearms and their impacts is understandable and useful to individuals, communities, educators, and professionals.
A Fox of a Feather operates on a strictly nonpartisan basis and does not engage in lobbying or political advocacy. Our commitment is to scientific integrity, transparency, and public benefit. By advancing research and sharing knowledge responsibly, we aim to support informed decision-making and contribute to efforts that improve health, enhance safety, and reduce gun mortality across the United States.
Scientific Integrity
We are committed to rigorous, transparent, and ethical research. Our work is grounded in sound methodology, peer-reviewed evidence, and responsible data stewardship.
Independence
We operate free from political, commercial, and ideological influence. Our research and educational activities are driven solely by evidence and the public interest.
Nonpartisanship
We do not engage in lobbying or political advocacy. We approach firearms research and education without allegiance to political parties or policy agendas.
Public Benefit
We believe knowledge should serve the public good. Our work is designed to improve health, safety, and well-being by making evidence accessible and meaningful.
Education and Accessibility
We translate complex research into clear, understandable information. We value plain language and inclusive communication.
Equity and Inclusion
We recognize that the impacts of firearm violence are not evenly distributed. Our research and educational efforts center fairness, inclusion, and attention to communities disproportionately affected by gun-related harm.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration
We value collaboration across disciplines, professions, and perspectives. Complex social and health challenges require diverse expertise and respectful dialogue.
We invite all who share this vision to join us on our mission to reduce gun mortality. Whether you are an activist, a student, a parent, a scientist, a gun owner, or just a concerned citizen — your voice matters. United, we have the power to reshape our future, to create a society where individuals do not have to worry about being victimized by gun violence.
Let us rise together, united in purpose, unwavering in our commitment to reducing gun mortality in the United States.
We invite you to invest in a future guided by the principle of evidence over ideology. Advancing rigorous research and public education on firearms requires all of our support and a commitment to facts, integrity, and public benefit. Your contribution enables researcher-led studies, open-access educational resources, and the responsible dissemination of evidence that can help reduce preventable gun-related injury and death. By supporting our work, you are supporting a commitment to a better tomorrow.
